Connect Codex to Desklet

Two commands, or the Desklet CLI and skill.

With two commands

The Codex CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this setup.

  1. Add Desklet in a terminal.

codex mcp add desklet --url https://desklet.io/mcp
  2. Sign in. Adding Desklet does not start the sign-in.

    codex mcp login desklet

With the Desklet CLI and skill

For Codex on a computer where it runs shell commands.

  1. Install the Desklet CLI with Homebrew, or with the install script where there is no Homebrew.

    brew install --cask desklet-io/tap/desklet
    curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/desklet-io/desklet/master/install.sh | sh
  2. Sign in once. The browser opens and asks which desks this computer sees and the mode. It shows up in Settings → Agents as Desklet CLI.

    desklet login
  3. Add the Desklet skill, which teaches Codex the CLI and its rules.

    npx skills add desklet-io/desklet

When you sign in

Desklet asks which desks Codex may see, and whether it may only read (Read) or also put results on them (Read & add). Codex then shows up in Settings → Agents.

Try asking

  • “Check Desklet for the screenshots on the Bugs desk and fix what they show.”
  • “Put the result on Desklet.”

If it doesn’t work

If Codex can’t reach Desklet, sign in again:

codex mcp login desklet

What a connected agent can do

  • It never deletes anything, whichever way it connects.
  • It sees only the desks you choose.
  • You pick the mode: Read, where it only looks, or Read & add, where it also puts results on the desk.
  • You can disconnect it any time in Settings → Agents, or revoke an AI link from the desk’s ⋯ menu.
